AMERICA IS OVERFED, BUT UNDERNOURISHED.

Macronutrients are what most people think about when it comes to food… these are where Calories come from - protein, carbs & fat.

Micronutrients are the components of food we need in smaller quantities (which is why they’re micro), but are just as essential to overall health & a healthy metabolism… if not MORE important.

In general, Americans are eating too many Calories, but not enough nutrients. Over 60% of average American’s diet consists of ultra-processed food. These are the pre-packaged, convenience foods found in the center of the grocery store. Most of these foods advertise they are fortified with certain nutrients, or claim to be a “good source” of fiber, or “heart healthy, etc… but, the reality is, they fall significantly short in what your body needs to be healthy & thrive.

Foods found in nature are complex with various forms of vitamins & minerals, where as pre-packaged foods usually only have one form of a vitamin or mineral, and that form is usually the cheapest variant possible… which more often than not is useless to our bodies.

For instance, “milk with added Vitamin D” is usually fortified with Vitamin D2, because it’s cheaper to manufacture… but our body’s need Vitamin D3 to boost our immunity, metabolism & to build strong bones.

When we consume these products over & over, it can lead to nutrient deficiencies… which can not only lead to health problems, but can also leave the body feeling as though it’s starving, even though it’s getting plenty of Calories.

After years of competing, I experienced this….

My body was so depleted of nutrients from not only restricting my macronutrients so much, but also because I wasn’t getting the micronutrients I needed… I was eating mostly processed foods that were low in Calories as an attempt to lose weight. Over time, this left me with constant hunger & cravings, even after I would eat enough Calories… which would cause me to overeat on Calories, because willpower only lasts so long.

So, I focused on nourishing my body. I loaded up with nourishing whole foods, not pre-packaged crap, and I supplemented with high-quality vitamins & minerals derived from whole food sources - not a lab. What happened was my hunger went away. I no longer had to rely on willpower to maintain a healthy weight. Suddenly my metabolism improved & the weight came off effortlessly.

The body wants to be healthy… we simply have to give it the right building blocks to do so. By focusing on nourishing, instead of restricting, you allow your body to run optimally, and create an internal environment where willpower is no longer the main factor in whether you’re healthy or not…

Give your body what it needs & it will repay you in dividends. Focus on the micronutrients, and watch your energy, health & vitality improve.

DM me if you have any questions about this concept… I’m always happy to help.
