Fat Loss Hack

Fat loss hack: Preload each meal with 16oz of water

You’ve probably heard that we can mistake dehydration with hunger. There’s some debate as to whether that is true or not…

However, there is no debate as to the effects of hydration in metabolism.

Studies have shown that drinking water can boost metabolism.

One study, in particular, showed a metabolic boost equivalent to 25 Calories can happen by drinking 17 Oz of water within 10 minutes time... do this 4x per day & you’ll burn an extra 100 Calories doing absolutely nothing else. I encourage all of my clients to start their day with 18-20 Oz of water for this reason… they begin their day with a metabolic boost, plus they assist their body’s in the detox process. During sleep our brains are “cleaned” by the glymphatic system, and our bodies continue to metabolize nutrients throughout the night. By starting the day with water you’re better able to “flush out” any metabolic byproducts… plus, you’re hella dehydrated already from not drinking for 8+ hours. Every bodily process, including brain function, improves when you’re properly hydrated. You’ll make better decisions & be a nicer person when you’re hydrated.

Other studies have shown increased fat loss by participants who preload each meal with at least 16 Oz of water vs participants who don’t. Both groups were given a reduced Calorie diet. You may be thinking “Ok, that makes sense since the water group probably ate less.” But, even when Calories were equivalent to the non-water group, participants still lost more body fat. 😳

Water is essential for life. It’s used in every metabolic process, which happens at a cellular level. When you give your body the components it needs to run efficiently, the body responds by improving its metabolism. Too much focus in our society is on fighting the body & trying to force it to do things it doesn’t want to do, but a much better & sustainable approach is to focus on giving the body what it needs to work better…

As Socrates said “The secret to change is to focus all your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”

When you’re in a war with your body, the body will win every time. Make peace with your body, and give it the tools it needs to flourish…

And drink your damn water. 😉

XO,

Stacie
