Fact of Life: People don’t always treat you the way that you treat them.

Fact of Life: People don’t always treat you the way that you treat them.

Unexpressed expectations are premeditated resentments…

We must tell the people around us how we want to be treated. This goes for every type of relationship- romantic, friend, family, work, etc.

Our distress in relationships comes when we assume others will treat us the way we treat them. We believe we’re sending invisible signals as to what we will & will not tolerate, but that’s not necessarily true…

It is human nature to push the boundaries of others- we all do it. We all assume everyone sees the world as we do, but the truth is NO ONE sees the world as we do…

We all have different life experiences, which shapes our lens of the world…

The “rules” of my household were completely different than yours, but yet we all automatically assume there is one “right” way to do something…

There is not.

To be human is to be nuanced. So, we must interact with each other in a clear, communicative way as we set our boundaries of what we will & will not tolerate, as we express our expectations of others…

You know the saying… assuming makes an ass out of u & me.😉

It is 100% up to us to tell other people what behaviors we will or will not tolerate.

It is 100% up to us to establish & ENFORCE our boundaries.

It is 100% up to us who has access to us & how much access they have.

If you continue to choose to engage in one-sided relationships, your pain & suffering is your own doing - not the other party’s.

We can’t control the people around us, but we can control who we choose to be around.

If someone in your life refuses to show you the respect you show them, deny their access, and create space for someone who will. This doesn’t make you a bad person… it makes you a kind person… because it is unkind to secretly resent someone else for being human.

Boundaries aren’t barriers to keep people out… they’re guideposts illuminating the path to connection.💖

XO,

Stacie
