Your Job Is Not Your Life
Your job is not your life…
Your job is here to support your life.
Your purpose in life isn’t your job…
You can create a job that contributes to your purpose, but your job isn’t your purpose.
The expression “Do something you love & you’ll never work a day in your life” is B.S.
I created a job around what I love, and it’s still work…
Work is it’s own entity, but very commonly in our culture, we give our power/happiness/well-being to our jobs.
When we get these things confused, a few traps we can fall into are…
1. We make our identity our profession.
2. We confuse our worthiness with our productivity.
3. We feel guilty for prosperity, so we don’t request proper compensation for our services.
When we do these things, it leads to…
1. Anxiety & depression, because we don’t know who we are, and we fear we could lose our identity at any moment.
2. We burn ourselves out trying to feel like we’re enough.
3. We develop resentment for our talents because our basic needs aren’t being met.
If your job is stressing you out, identify which trap you’re falling into by identifying the correlating feeling. This will give you a clue as to what needs to change. Then take the actions necessary to change it… and if think you can’t change it - that’s a story you’re telling yourself… it’s not the truth. We always have options, we just have to be open to options that challenge the way we’ve been conditioned to live.
Your job - whatever it is - is…
* A means to support YOU.
* A way to use your talents to support YOUR life.
* Simply an energy exchange: your time + skills (energy output) vs compensation + fulfillment (energy input)… These must be aligned for you to sustain it longterm.
A job, no matter how prestigious it is, is nothing more than that. So, stop giving it so much power over your existence.
Separate your Self from your job, and suddenly you’ll start to see that there’s soooooooo much more to this thing we call life.
We weren’t meant to come here to stress out, work, pay bills & die… we were meant to come here & actually LIVE. A job is just one of the small ways we can create a life we love.

Stacie
